Champ Show Judge: Anita Shears (Stormlyne)
I have been involved with dogs all my life and owned a Cocker Spaniel when I married Brian. My introduction to Welsh Springer Spaniels came when I received my first Welshie as a birthday present. Stormlyne Bracken became my foundation dog and sparked my lifelong passion for the breed.
Following extensive research, I was fortunate to acquire Aranwr Celtic Lady of Stormlyne, who became my foundation bitch. Together, they formed the basis of our selective breeding programme, which began in 1987. Over the years, we have bred carefully and responsibly, always with the aim of maintaining the breed’s soundness, temperament, and quality.
I began judging in 1998 and have since had the privilege of judging many Gundog breeds across the United Kingdom at Open Show level, in addition to judging Welsh Springer Spaniels at Championship Show level. I was also honoured to judge Welsh Springer Spaniels in Sweden.
For many years, I have served on the committee of the WSSCSW and continue to represent the club on the United Spaniel Association committee.
Alongside breeding and judging, I enjoy stewarding at all levels throughout the year and take particular satisfaction in mentoring and supporting new stewards as they progress within the judging world.
I would like to extend my sincere thanks to the Welsh Springer Spaniel Club of South Wales for the honour of this judging appointment. I am greatly looking forward to the day and to seeing many quality Welsh Springer Spaniels.
Open Show Judge: Mr Michael Blay (Longbarrow)
I have been involved in dogs all my life. Predominantly in Gundogs, but have a soft spot for terriers.
Fast forward to 1997 when I was proud to offer my first set of Challenge Certificates. Since then I have been approved to award Challenge Certificates in nine breeds, and had the honour of judging two Gundog Groups at Championship Show Level.
I have made up Champions in two breeds, and can still be found around the show ring with my German Shorthaired Pointer.
Thank you to the Society for their invitation – I am looking forward to judging at this prestigious Club Show.
Specials Judge: Damien Hutton-Baber (Babtonkelpie)
I would like to thank the Welsh Springer Spaniel Club of South Wales for inviting me to judge the Special Awards Classes in September 2026.My involvement in the pedigree dog world began in 2012 with my first Cocker Spaniel, and I quickly developed a passion for exhibiting and the wider dog-show community. Today, I own, show, and breed Cocker Spaniels, with four bitches holding Stud Book Numbers, including two achieved through their Junior Warrants.I am a committee member of the East Anglian Cocker Spaniel Society and have been involved in helping the club grow and successfully host championship shows and educational events. I also coordinated the Cocker Spaniel Discover Dogs stand, which was awarded Best Stand in Show at Crufts 2026 by The Royal Royal Kennel Club.
Following this achievement, I was honoured to be co-opted onto the committee of The Cocker Spaniel Club.
I am currently JEP Level 2 in Welsh Springer Spaniels and am keen to further my knowledge of this wonderful breed, while working towards JEP Level 4 in Cocker Spaniels. I am very much looking forward to this appointment and would like to thank the club once again for the opportunity to judge this beautiful and distinguished breed.

Just 20 minutes from either the M4 or the M50 motorways and in the beautiful border countryside of Wales and England, Monmouth lies within the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with the Brecon Beacons National Park just over ten miles away.
Monmouth is conveniently located on the A40 at the junction with the A466 making it easily accessible from the UK motorway and road network. The schools and sports facilities are spread around the town.
FROM SOUTH ON M4
Heading west on the M4 from the Prince Of Wales bridge – take exit 24 (Coldra Roundabout) and take the A449 to Raglan & Monmouth.
At Raglan the A449 becomes the A40 – carry straight on to Monmouth.
After the Gibraltar Tunnels at Monmouth is a set of Traffic lights – carry straight on past these for another half mile to a roundabout – go all the way around the roundabout to go back the way you just came on the A40 – back to the traffic lights where you should turn left onto the A466 sign posted for Chepstow and Forest of Dean.
Continue over bridge to a mini roundabout – and carry straight on the A4136 – for 400m to a junction on the left into Hadnock Road..
After 400m along Hadnock Road you will see an entrance on the left into Monmouth School Sports Club.
FROM NORTH ON M5
If you are coming from the north on the M5 turn onto the M50 at Strensham following the signs to Ross-on-Wye.
At the roundabout at Ross-on-Wye carry straight on on the A40 signposted for South Wales and Monmouth.
Straight on at the roundabout at Monmouth towards Raglan and Newport (Monmouth is signposted to the right) – for another half mile to the traffic lights where you should turn left onto the A466 sign posted for Chepstow and Forest of Dean.
Continue over bridge to a mini roundabout – and carry straight on the A4136 – for 400m to a junction on the left into Hadnock Road..
After 400m along Hadnock Road you will see an entrance on the left into Monmouth School Sports Club.
ON M48 OVER THE FIRST SEVERN BRIDGE
Exit the M48 at Jnct 2 toward Chepstow onto the A466 signposted for the Wye Valley
Straight ahead at the next roundabout keeping on the A466 signposted for Tintern and Monmouth.
Stay on the A466 for 14 miles (this is a beatiful but windy road along the Wye Valley) to Monmouth till you come to a mini roundabout by a Lidl Supermarket – turn right onto the A4136 signposted for the Forest of Dean – after 400m turn left at the junction into Hadnock Road..
After 400m along Hadnock Road you will see an entrance on the left into Monmouth School Sports Club.
