Craig-y-Nos – here we are again at this beautiful location in the Bannau Brecheiniog – and this time, at the height of summer, we wanted to make it a special day out like the summer rallies of old. Over 25 Welshies (and a few other honorary Welshies), with their owners, turned up to enjoy our picnic, walk and extra activities.

We set up our club event tent and everyone brought their own picnics and bits and pieces to add to the communal table. It was a glorious day – maybe a tad too hot for some – but in the shade of the trees and gazebo everyone was able to relax and enjoy the activities we put on.

Ann and Clive Griffiths brought along her agility equipment and gave us a demonstration of what her dogs Cai and Tiggy  are capable of and she invited everyone to have a go – a few took up the challenge with varying degrees of success – but it was all great fun.

Under the shade of the trees our Chairperson Debbie gave an informative  demonstration of some grooming techniques which a few dogs thoroughly enjoyed judging by the photos.

Jackie Trezise then gave us a talk and demonstration of her expertise in Mantrailing – whereby her dog Derwyn  is quite adept at being able to track down missing persons just by following the scent of a donated item. Treasurer Sue gave Jackie a jumper she’d been wearing and went off around the field to hide in a far off corner. After having a good sniff of the jumper he enthusiastically set off, leading Jackie around all the nooks and crannies that Sue had visited, till he eventually found her in the undergrowth at the end of the field – he immediately sat to indicate he had found his prey. A very impressive display, thank you Jackie.

And to wind up the afternoon Keith and Annie set up a Scurry for the dogs to have a go at – this is always a popular retrieving exercise for the working gun dog, but, alas, the dogs here today need a bit more practice at this event. Yet the dog’s antics in jumping the hay bales and retrieving balls and dummies led to some hilarious moments and they all had a good bash at it – certainly an event we will introduce to more of our meets – so get your dogs practising folks.

Everyone who took part were awarded with a colourful club rosette.

Many thanks to everyone who turned up and we hope you all enjoyed the day out – we were very pleased to see a few new faces there and hope you enjoyed the day enough to come and join us again next time and  – which will probably be our Autumn gathering at Barry Island (date yet to be announced) – watch this space and Facebook for more info
