We haven’t met up here for a few years now and we thought it’s about time we did so, because it’s such a lovely place and especially as one of our regular walkers, Fran Perkins, said she would be more than happy to lead the walk as it is her home stomping ground.
Parc Cwm Darran was also the home territory of the late Jan Janes – our much-missed ex secretary, treasurer and lifelong member – and this weekend was the anniversary of her passing. She would have loved to see us gathering here once more as it was her favourite place to walk her Coedybrain Welsh Springers.
Just over 20 Welshies turned up with their owners on a fine spring morning – although a bit colder than it has been for the past couple of weeks.
Once everybody, including the dogs, had said their hellos to old friends Fran led the group off up through the forest and the dogs were soon allowed to run free and have fun in the stream – and unfortunately the black mud. The route eventually dropped back down to the bottom end of the lake where there is a charming little dingle with a waterfall dropping into a pond – a picturesque area the council has recently tastefully refurbished to make into a more attractive visitor attraction.
Then a lap around the large lake where the dogs had to be reined back in because of the large population of Canada Geese, Morehens, Swans and Ducks – before arriving back at the car park and the newly refurbished Visitor Centre for a cuppa and slice of cake. The centre is now under new management and they serve up a tasty menu – especially a great looking Sunday lunch which was suggested that we all try out next time.
Many thanks to everyone who turned up and we hope you all enjoyed the day out – we were very pleased to see a few new faces there and hope you enjoyed the day enough to come and join us again next time and – which will probably be our summer gathering at Craig-y-Nos Country Park (date yet to be announced) – watch this space and Facebook for more info
Please check out the gallery of photos below – the first lot are mine from around the car park, but as I can’t manage to follow the walk myself I’m grateful to Clive Griffiths and Jackie Trezise for taking a load of photos and allowing us to use them here, – if you have any photos you’d like to add to the gallery please send them to me at – welshspringerspaniel.csw@gmail.com
