We haven’t been to Kenfig Nature Reserve for a couple of years which is a shame because it is a wonderful location for one of our dog walks and club get together – proved by how many turned out for this walk

The Kenfig Nature Reserve offers a choice of walks around the reservoir or through the dunes to the pebble fringed, sandy beach. Beautiful walks that you can spend hours exploring, and we did a bit of everything this time.
We met at 10:45 made sure we all stopped to observe the 2 minutes silence at 11:00 am for remembrance Sunday – before leaving the centre for our walk.
Kenfig National Nature Reserve is one of the finest wildlife habitats in Wales and is also one of the last remnants of a huge dune system that once stretched along the coastline of southern Wales from the Ogmore River to the Gower peninsular.
There are plenty of plants and bird life to spot at the nearby Kenfig Pool. It attracts a large number of waterfowl, and due to the lack of rain there’s a small beach area and plenty of reeds for those would be beaters! The natural pool, despite local legends, is actually very shallow and does not contain any ancient buildings underneath it.
Yours truly only got as far as the reservoir due to my bad leg giving me a bit of jip walking through the sand dunes – so I had to leave the rest of the gang to get down to the beach – so there’s a pile of photos from Jan and Graham to record what was a most enjoyable walk.
